After months of anticipation, today the government’s jobs and skills summit officially kicks off.
Over 140 union leaders, corporate CEOs and industry heads will gather in Canberra for two days of discussion and deliberation on the issues facing Australia’s work force.
Top of the list will be addressing Australia’s skill shortage, equal opportunity and pay for women, wage growth and changes to enterprise bargaining.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers, one of the summit’s key architects, has already acknowledged the broad mix of different ideologies may lead to some tense moments, but the government is hopeful the gathering will achieve meaningful change.
Today on Please Explain, business reporter Nick Bonyhady joins Dominic Powell to discuss what workers can expect from the summit. Subscribe to The Age & SMH: https://subscribe.smh.com.au/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. |
