The 47th Parliament opens on Tuesday, and MPs, senators, staffers, the media and lobbyists are already descending on Canberra for the Albanese government’s first sitting.
The new government has a big agenda.
It will take legislation to enshrine its 43 per cent emissions reduction target before Parliament; it is staring down a foot and mouth disease outbreak in Indonesia amid calls to shut the border; and ahead of legislation to disband the Australian Building and Construction Commission, the government will reduce its remit to a “bare legal minimum”.
