Description:

Australia lost the second Test to Sri Lanka in spectacular fashion overnight in Galle, falling short by an innings and 39 runs, but the Test cricket has been overshadowed by the domestic crisis gripping Sri Lanka.

Protestors stormed the presidential palace of Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the weekend, blaming him for an unprecedented economic meltdown that has throttled the lives of the nation’s 22 million people.

The president has promised to leave office on Wednesday, while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he’d go as soon as opposition parties agree on a unity government.

But protest leaders say they won’t leave official buildings until both men have actually resigned.

Today on Please Explain, chief cricket writer Daniel Brettig joins Bianca Hall to talk about the Test, and what it's been like watching history unfold in Sri Lanka over the past few days.
