Nick Kyrgios is one of the most talented tennis players on the planet, but also one of the most controversial.
Kyrgios defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets at Wimbledon on the weekend, in an edge-of-your seat match.
Both players were fined for their conduct: Tsitsipas was fined $14,600 for slamming a ball into the crowd, while Kyrgios was fined almost $6000 for uttering an obscenity.
As ever, the criticism of Kyrgios has been loud: Tsitsipas called the Australian a “bully” with a “very evil side to him”, while one columnist called for his passport to be revoked.
Today on Please Explain, culture editor and columnist Osman Faruqi joins Bianca Hall to discuss the reasons Kyrgios divides opinion. Subscribe to The Age & SMH: https://subscribe.smh.com.au/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. |
