Maj Grant "Emilio" Mauritzson was a United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier pilot that served with VMFA-211 and VMFA-311. He is an Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve veteran and we worked together while deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Emilio gives a good breakdown of how a flight contract Marine may progress through flight school and what was perceived to be the more difficult events. We talk through the different steps in training that he undertook prior to his first deployment to Afghanistan. We also discuss the difficulties of working within certain ROEs during that timeframe and what it meant for guy on the ground.
Sprinkled throughout is our unsolicited advice for how the Marine Corps could better employ their personnel and what impacts it could have on the service. Overall, a great podcast with a ton of useful information. We're gonna have to schedule a follow-up in the near future to dig deeper into some of the topics we brought up.
