Deadpool Notes:
Comicbook History
Marvel character created in 1991
Rob Liefeld (famed for not being able to draw feet) and Fabian Nicieza
First appearing in New Mutants #29
Rip off of a DC character, Deathstroke
Intended to be cousins, Slade Wilson/ Wade Wilson
Superpowers: He’s batshit crazy… or is he?
Ex-US Military turned Mercenary, Wade was always a crazy guy and, in some respects, Wolverine Origins got Wade Wilson right.
When he joined Weapon-X, he found out he was dying of cancer
Weapon-X transfused him with Wolverine’s blood
instead of curing his cancer, it accelerated and deformed him
Why he wears his mask
Makes people vomit
Wolverine Powers: regeneration, speed, and immune to morals.
Insanity:
On top of his powers, Wade was already becoming schizophrenic and just like the cancer, it mutated too
Wade Wilson knows he’s in a comic book
voices he hears are the Writer and Artist of his book/movie.
Is he really insane or is he the sanest person in the MCU????
Comedy:
Cynical
Slapstick
Constantly breaking the 4th Wall, Shakespearian/Stan Lee-esque
What he symbolizes to fans and Marvel?
Joe Kelly’s Deadpool
He’s confused by everyone as being Spider-Man or Deathstroke
But, he’s as strong and fast as Wolverine
He’s the comedic output in full Rated-R comic form
The grown up geek would understand how stupid and jaded these characters get…
Deadpool points at that and laughs, he’s the Jester at a Kings Court
While Batman, X-Men, etc. are dark and brooding characters,
DP travels back in time to the 60s to party it up with an alcoholic Ton Stark
He’s obsessed with the internet and media and LOOOOOVES Chimichanga’s!
So you can understand the Zeitgeist he represents
Deadpool: Origins
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Released in 2009
Ryan Reynolds was tapped to play Wade Wilson
Reynolds sounds and looked the part, more importantly: huge fan!
So all the fan boys got excited
BUT THEN!
The toy, the film art, and the work print got leaked!
IMPORTANT!!
I want you to remember this point,
that studio Fox got sooooo pissed off about the leak, BUT!
It was the fans that were more angry than they were
One of the single most let downs of that movie was how they portrayed Deadpool
Deadpool was bullshit
BUT! Credit where credits due,
They got Wade Wilson down to the T
Ryan Reynolds backlash
The worst thing about Origins is that
Reynolds when asked, is clearly the biggest DP nerd in Hollywood
When asked, he’d say it he was the biggest fan,
but that Origins’ Deadpool wasn’t the real Deadpool
When rumors of the film started up, he kept saying
“It would have nothing to do with the Origins Deadpool”
At one point, I heard that the plot would be Deadpool jumping movies and killing that version of Deadpool.
June of this year, prior to comic-con
Reynolds is rumored to leaves Deadpool,
Which cancelled the Comic-Con trailer screen
People say this was a rumor, but as of yet Reynolds isn’t confirmed to reprise the role
Test Footage
Finally get to… footage being leaked
Tim Miller and Rhett Reese wrote the short story showing Joe Kelly’s Deadpool in all his glory!
Reynolds in full rotoscope animation jumping into a moving car and murdering all of the thugs!
Remember: This isn’t the first leak that’s happened in regards to Deadpool and that’s the point that everyone forgets!
Rumors: Intentionally leaked, while it might be true
Fox spent money trying to shut it all down, sending copyright claims to ALL possible video sites online.
Then!
BLUR STUDIOS, the CGI company that did all the work rotoscoping
Released the HD version of the footage
Work was being misrepresented online
GIANT FUCK YOU TO FOX
With that Tim Miller, the director, started a compaign to get DP green lit…
Announcement
Leads to this week
20th Century Fox who owns the Mutant properties from Marvel announced a
February 12, 2016 date release which shifts Assassins Creeds, The Fantastic Four, and Paper Towns to later dates.
Same year that X-Men: Apocalypse will be coming out,
tells you that Fox is still unsure of it’s success.
What the Deadpool movie should be (i.e. Rating)
This movie, hands down should be a rated R film
Even Reynolds has gone on recording saying this
Now! If it’s in animation, they can get away with a ton more assuming
they try for PG-13
BUT! Deadpool is best compared to Seth McFarland’s TED
Sure, Teddy Bear is cute and kids wanted to see it, but it’s an adult film!
Deadpool is gonna have a similar reception
Kids will want to watch it, but they shouldnt.
Then why try for PG13?
FOX needs to grow some balls and show Marvel what they’ve been doing wrong!
Make a Rated-R comicbook movie!
