Episode #109 "Jiu Jitsu in Law Enforcement"

Category: Sports & Recreation
Duration: 01:17:09
Publish Date: 2019-07-18 04:00:00
Description:

The boys talk about why law enforcement officers should be required to take BJJ classes. This of course isn’t just their opinion. This whole pro tip came from a police officer who actually needed his Jiu Jitsu on the job and advocates heavily for the need for officers to train.

Officer Joe as been a cop for 8 years. Half of which he was training BJJ. He has about as good of a perspective as you’re gonna get as far as not just the benefits, but the need for this art to be mandated in officer training.

In the tip he talked about the time he needed to use his Jiu Jitsu to control a person who, by law, he could’ve used deadly force on because of what transpired in that particular situation. Instead, he took him down, maintained mount, and kept everyone safe until the could cuff him.

Unfortunately, not all law enforcement officers feel the same way about the need to train, especially because of what they are taught in the academy.

Officer Joe talks about what they actually learn to deal with the threat of physical violence as well as why most officers decide not to train even if they know better.

All in all it’s a sad state of affairs that they are required to put their lives on the line but are ill equipped to do so.

In the end, we try and bring it all around to not only why police officers should train, but why you should too. Just because they have a far higher likelihood of encountering violence doesn’t mean that violence won’t ever find you. It’s always a good idea to be as prepared as you can be should that situation arise.
