The Texas Rangers have signed Joely Rodriguez, a lefty reliever, to a two-year deal worth $5.5 million, a source confirmed to The Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant. The deal ncludes a club option for a third year. MLB Network first reported the deal.
Rodriguez will make $2.5 million the first year, and $3 million in the second season. There is a $500K buyout should Texas not exercise the third-year option.
Rodriguez, 28, spent the last two seasons pitching for the Chunichi Dragons in Japan. He previously pitched two seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies. In his last MLB season in 2017, he was 1-2 with a 6.33 ERA in 27 innings.
