  • Transubstantiation (Catholicism): The elements convert into the physical body and blood of Christ.
  • Consubstantiation (Lutheranism): The substances both of the body and blood of Christ and of the bread and the wine coexist in union with each other.
  • Spiritual Presence (Reformed): Christ is spiritually present in the elements.
  • Memorial (Anabaptist): The elements are purely symbolic.
