Once upon a time, there were three billy-goats who set off to pasture to make themselves fat, and all three were called Billy-goat Gruff. On the way, there was a bridge over a waterfall, which they had to cross; and under the bridge lived a terrible great troll, with eyes the size of tin plates, and a nose as long as a rake handle. First came the youngest Billy-goat Gruff to cross the bridge. “Trip-trap, trip-trap,” sounded the bridge. “Who is that trip-trapping on my bridge?” shrieked the troll.
