Description:

Do you suffer from migraines? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute.  New research from University of Waterloo, in Ontario may indicate a link between migraines and dementia risk.  They gathered data from over 670 participants, 65 and older, living with either dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease.  Another set of participants, without cognitive problems, were added as a baseline.  After accounting for different variables, the research showed that people with dementia were 3 times more likely to suffer from migraines than those without and people with Alzheimer’s Disease were 4 times as likely.  Early detection is key to slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and knowing that migraines are a risk factor could help patients get the treatment they need sooner.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
