Description:

Will eating eggs increase your risk of having a stroke? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  A new study out of University of Eastern Finland found that, in moderation, it won’t.  In fact, they found that moderate intake of cholesterol, up to one egg a day, 200 milligrams of cholesterol, doesn’t impact your risk for a stroke. The study took place 1984-1989 consisted of 1,950 people.  Of the participants, 34% of them were carriers of the APOE4 phenotype, which affects cholesterol metabolism.  During a 21 year follow up, scientists found that moderate egg consumption didn’t increase the risk of a stroke, even in the participants with the APOE4 phenotype.  So, enjoy that omelet—in moderation.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
