Description:

Do you think that certain food additives aren’t bad for you?  Think again.  This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  E171 is a food additive used as a coloring agent.  It’s prevalent in various foods, such as: candy, cake-icing, and chewing gum.  A 2018 study found that the consumption of E171 lead to the formation of colon cancer tumors in mice.  Another study that was recently published in the journal Environmental Science: Nano found that the additive also changed the cell function and upkeep of the GI tract, damaging necessary self-protective mechanisms.  France is planning on a ban of this additive starting early next year.  Hopefully, the US will jump on the bandwagon.  It’s time to start checking your food labels and look for products that have no artificial colors or additives.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
