July 9 | As Tony Martin became the second rider to crash out while wearing the yellow jersey, the Telegraph Cycling Podcast discusses the latest drama and controversy in this year’s Tour de France.

Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe are joined by Ciro Scognamiglio of Gazzetta dello Sport as they analyse stage six to Le Havre. It looked routine on paper, but Martin’s crash in the final kilometre put paid to that. On Thursday evening it looked as though Martin’s Tour was over thanks to a broken collarbone, following Fabian Cancellara, who was forced out with two fractured vertebrae. Meanwhile, the stage winner, Zdenek Stybar, an Etixx-QuickStep teammate of Martin’s, was almost completely forgotten.

After the finish there was more drama when Chris Froome rode straight past his Team Sky bus and made for Vincenzo Nibali’s Astana bus, climbing aboard to have words with the Italian. Each appeared to blame the other for the crash, but Nibali said they resolved their differences peacefully. “We are cyclists, not footballers,” he said.

All of this followed the history-making exploits of Daniel Teklehaimanot of the MTN-Qhebeka team, who became the first Eritrean – the first black African – to wear the polka-dot King of the Mountains jersey. In the podcast we hear from his team captain, Tyler Farrar, and his sports director, Jens Zemke.
