Keto Hot Seat Questions Answered in This Episode:

  • How do you know if your cholesterol is “fluffy”? What is considered a “low” HDL level?
  • How do you get the last 10 pounds off when you’ve been fat-adapted for over a year and trying super low carbs didn’t help, carnivore didn’t help and increasing carbs isn’t working?
  • What can you do when your hunger suddenly gets out of hand after you started taking a spore-based probiotic?
  • What is your top favorite keto meal?
  • What do you need to know about body odor when you’re on keto?
  • Why should you eat breakfast instead of relying on bulletproof coffee?
  • What are some tips specific to perimenopausal women or women with other dysregulation who’s current diet is no longer working and who are gaining weight rapidly?
  • When you are 65, been through menopause and have the typical hot flashes and vaginal thinning and dryness that seems to go with age, what are the other options instead of using a bioidentical hormone? Is natural hormone balance possible after menopause?
  • Why do you get eczema outbreaks after going on keto?
  • What is your go-to restaurant meal when on vacation?
  • What are different tests for food sensitivities, and which ones are good to do?

Key Takeaways:

  • When you have excess weight beyond where your body is comfortable and happy, then that is a symptom of something deeper going on that’s keeping your health out of balance.
  • New information comes out daily about the importance of having a nice, healthy, balanced microbiome, and when you start taking probiotics, it really starts changing and regulating other things in your body.
  • If you’re new to keto and you’re maybe kind of going through the keto flu and you notice a change in your body odor, that is basically a sign that you’re producing ketones and you’re excreting acetone through your sweat. That eventually goes away as you become keto-adapted.
  • There’re so many other factors that you need to look at other than diet when you’re not losing weight. You can’t just be upset with your body and upset with your diet and getting all frustrated about why it’s not working out for you.
  • Going on keto often brings up other health issues that need to be addressed.
  • No food sensitivity test is going to be 100% accurate. There’s always room for error and the tests aren’t 100% foolproof.

Action Steps:

  • Take away the labels you put on food. Keto is a type of diet or a type of lifestyle. It’s not a label of a food and it shouldn’t be.
  • If you’re really concerned about your cholesterol and you have a history of heart disease in your family, try getting an NMR test, and keep the ratio of your triglycerides to HDL ratio as close to 1 as possible.
  • Make sure you are providing your body with a sufficient amount of nutrients, and consider cutting back your fasting if you’re fasting 36 hours a week.
  • If you have issues with body odor, it could be because of a mineral imbalance, so you need to work harder to balance your electrolytes. Or it could be because of a magnesium deficiency, so you need to increase your magnesium.
  • Look to detoxifying your liver using real food like leafy greens, bitter greens, root vegetables, and citrus.
  • Get your hormones tested to see if you have a hormonal balance that’s causing you to not lose weight. From there, speak with someone that can help you take those results and put you on a protocol to balance them.
  • If you are postmenopausal, find a practitioner in your area that can help you have a great postmenopause experience.
  • If you are having issues with eczema, get your gut health tested, and find out what you need to work on with the help of a functional practitioner.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

As always, if you have any questions, be on the lookout for the next Keto Hot Seat call for questions on Facebook and Instagram. Make sure your questions are short, general, and that you haven’t heard the answer to them before.

Take care!

“When we have labels on food, then that will kind of keep us in this place of can/can’t, should/shouldn’t, do/don’t… where our foods are classified almost as ‘yes, this is okay,’ or ‘no, this is not.’ So when we call a food keto, that’s going to bring in that type of mentality.”

“There are so many more things that you need to take charge of in your life to truly understand what’s going on in your body and why you are gaining weight… diet has very little to do with it.”
