Description
Since 1985, Canadian composer Gilles Gobeil has been working on producing works in the area of Acousmatic Music and Mixed Music. Many of his compositions are based on the so-called »cinéma pour l’oreille« [Cinema for the Ears], others are inspired by literary works that are visualized through the medium of sound. As part of the interview between Gilles Gobeil and Ludger Brümmer (Head of the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics) the composer’s way of working will be examined in more detail.

Following the interview, the concert »Acousmatique Canadienne« will take place in the ZKM_Cube, through which Gilles Gobeil will interpret his own acousmatic works as well as the works of other Canadian composers.

About the Person

After his studies in music theory, Gilles Gobeil received a Master’s in Composition from the Université de Montréal. Gobeil is a Professor for Music Technology at the Cégep de Drummondville and was a guest professor for electro acoustics at the Université de Montréal and at the Conservatoire de Montréal. He was awarded numerous prices and was a guest composer at the Banff Centre in Bourges, at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, at the INA/GRM Paris, at the ZKM, and in 2008 at the Artists-in-Berlin programme of the DAAD. He is a member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community, Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and Cofounder of the Réseaux, an association that has dedicated itself to the production of media art events

Seit 1985 beschäftigt sich der kanadische Komponist Gilles Gobeil bereits mit der Schaffung von Werken im Bereich Akusmatik und Mixed Music. Viele seiner Kompositionen lehnen sich an das so genannte »cinéma pour l’oreille« [Kino für die Ohren] an, andere sind von literarischen Werken inspiriert, die über das Medium Klang visualisiert werden. Im Rahmen des Gesprächs zwischen Gilles Gobeil und Ludger Brümmer, Leiter des ZKM | Institut für Musik und Akustik, wird die Arbeitsweise des Komponisten näher erläutert.

Im Anschluss an das Gespräch findet im ZKM_Kubus das Konzert »Acousmatique Canadienne« statt, in dessen Rahmen Gilles Gobeil eigene akusmatische Werke sowie Arbeiten weiterer kanadischer KomponistInnen interpretieren wird.

Zur Person

Nach seinem Studium der Musiktheorie erwarb Gilles Gobeil einen Master in Komposition an der Université de Montréal.
