Episode #106 "Reactive vs Proactive in Jiu Jitsu"

Category: Sports & Recreation
Duration: 01:33:12
Publish Date: 2019-06-26 23:00:00
Description:

The boys used the flick chat app to come up with the pro tip for the first time. If you don’t have the app yet be sure and get it and become part of the conversation.

The question was a bit more in depth than just going from being reactive to becoming proactive during rolls and read as follows:

“The transition from being reactive to proactive. I now force stuff on my opponent whereas previously I’d wait for a moment to present itself. I used to spend a long time just waiting to pounce but now I think if I do this, they’ll do that, so I can do this…

Except with higher belts where existence is pain.

That and how to deal with that white belt that doesn’t actually practice the professor’s techniques but everything they see on YouTube regardless of how ridiculous/difficult/dangerous it is.”

Kroyler answers the questions point by point in a very succinct way. Amazingly, Paulie only stumbling with a few words this time...

For the question of going from reactive to proactive Kroyler lays out a six step system for attaining that, from being a layman to setting up our own attacks.

What is also clarified is being the aggressor is not defined at using athleticism to force things, it is leading your partner or competitors down a certain path that gives them limited choices on how they must react. You capitalize on these reactions by setting traps that they must walk right into.

Kroyler gives a nice little example of what this looks like so even the most layman of people can wrap their heads around it.

At the end of the pro tip,Kroyler talks about who should be dealing with a dangerous training partner and what you can do to protect yourselves and others.

Lastly, the boys read some listener questions from flick chat and argue with each other on whether or not strikes should be an integral part of attaining your next belt.
